A self-initiated study transforming original backyard product photography into a flexible library of polished lifestyle imagery for ecommerce, campaigns, and digital marketing.
Independent study created using outdoor furniture I personally own and photographed. Not affiliated with or commissioned by any furniture brand.
This independent study explored how original photographs of an outdoor furniture set could be transformed into polished lifestyle imagery while preserving the product’s recognizable design, finish, proportions, and scale.
Workflow
Original multi-angle photography · prompt direction and AI generation · product fidelity review · environment art direction · iterative refinement · marketing-format adaptation
The furniture was photographed from several viewpoints to document the details most likely to shift during AI-assisted generation. Reference images captured the chair front and back, arm profiles, seat and back slats, swivel base, table edge, pedestal construction, umbrella, finish, and overall scale.
These photographs established the visual reference used to evaluate later generations for product fidelity, proportion, material consistency, and recognizable construction.

Original reference photography of the purchased pub-height dining set, including the complete arrangement and key construction details.
Once a consistent product reference was established, the furniture was placed into a range of residential environments designed to support different marketing goals. Each scene explored a different setting and level of aspiration while keeping the furniture clearly recognizable as the central product.
The environments ranged from an approachable suburban backyard to an elevated poolside setting and a relaxed lakeside retreat. This allowed the same furniture set to support different customer aspirations while maintaining a consistent visual identity.

Everyday Backyard Environment
A familiar residential environment designed for broad consumer appeal.

Elevated Poolside Environment
A more aspirational outdoor living environment suited to premium campaign imagery.

Lakeside Environment
A relaxed multigenerational environment emphasizing connection, comfort, and long-term use.

Original Finish and Alternate Neutral Color
The original furniture featured a dark frame with brown seating and tabletop surfaces. An alternate light neutral finish was explored to demonstrate how product visualization could support early color concepts, merchandising decisions, and seasonal campaign planning.
The purpose was not to present the alternate finish as an existing manufactured option, but to show how the same product design could be evaluated in a different visual direction before additional photography or production investment.

Original Finish and Alternate Neutral Color
The campaign was extended beyond static product imagery to show how the furniture could support everyday moments, casual entertaining, and multigenerational use. Rather than relying on one generic lifestyle scene, the imagery was developed around distinct customer situations.
These scenes helped shift the product from an isolated furniture set into a recognizable part of outdoor routines, shared meals, conversations, and social gatherings.

Everyday Outdoor Living
A quieter couple-focused scene designed for website and email marketing.

Preparing to Entertain
A transitional moment showing the furniture being actively used rather than simply displayed.

Casual Social Gathering
A broader campaign image positioning the set as a gathering place for outdoor entertaining.
The final imagery was developed to support multiple digital placements rather than a single campaign image. Product-focused and lifestyle scenes could be reformatted into coordinated assets for website promotion, ecommerce, email marketing, and social media.
Using a consistent product reference helped maintain a recognizable visual identity while adapting the imagery to different formats, audiences, and campaign goals.

Tools & Production Work
Nano Banana for AI image generation and refinement · Adobe Photoshop for compositing, object removal, image expansion, and cropping · Canva for collage development, presentation layouts, and light color and exposure adjustments
This independent study shows how everyday product photography can become a broader lifestyle image library. AI-assisted generation, visual direction, and manual refinement supported the process.
It also shows why quality control matters. Each image still required review for furniture accuracy, material consistency, believable human interaction, and environmental realism.
The final workflow supports multiple settings, customer stories, finishes, and digital formats. It also extends the value of existing product photography across a wider range of marketing applications.
